Prompted by his discovery of 1930s and 1940s colonial archives of Palestine in his current base of Glasgow, Greek-Palestinian filmmaker and researcher Theo Panagopoulos investigates the role of film as both creating a colonial vision of Palestine as well as offering spaces of solidarity and resistance.
Using as a case study his own film The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing as well as a participatory film developed in a 2-day workshop in Copenhagen the days prior, he discusses archival material as a starting point of unearthing connections of transnational solidarity and complicity.
Exploring how colonial powers have both appropriated and erased Palestinian narratives, Panagopoulos examines how Palestinians are now repurposing colonial narratives through creative responses including those developed with the diaspora in Copenhagen.
Through the reactivation of rare archival materials and personal testimony, this event offers a moving reflection on collective memory, diasporic identity, and the power of film as an anti-colonial practice.
